Casing and Tubing

An oil well is essentially a specialized hole in the ground, and it is the only way access can be gained into the reservoir (where the oil is trapped) During the life of a drilling well, various processes and operations are fundamental to ensuring that the well is very productive.

The well must be taken through a completion process before the oil in the reservoir can be produced. Here lies the relevance of casing and tubing operations.

When a well is drilled, it can be as shallow as 5,000ft or as deep as 20,000ft. It is an open hole and could subsequently cave in. Therefore, the hole has to be reinforced. Placing a casing inside the hole (well) and cementing it to the hole provides this reinforcement. The Casings are series of iron pipes ranging in size from 30” to 7”. They hold the wall of the hole in place and ensure that it does not cave in due to topsoil pressure. To produce the oil, smaller sets of iron pipes (with diameter smaller than the casing) called Tubing are placed inside the Casings that are already in hole.

This helps to facilitate the flow of the oil from the Reservoir (oil trap) to the surface by creating a difference in pressure that carries the oil to the surface. They are placed down to the depth of interest i.e. where the oil is trapped. With a specialists Casing and Tubing crew as well as state of the art Tongs and Power Units/accessories, we are set to provide these services also to other producing companies.
